The 2025 Queensland International Open, held in Brisbane from 26–28 September 2025, was not only a stage for exciting judo action but also an important milestone for Western Australian refereeing.

One of the standout moments came from Jonathan Richetti of the Australian Institute of Judo, who represented WA as a referee at the event. Already holding his State A licence, Jonathan travelled across the country to officiate and undergo assessment for the next step in his refereeing journey.

Across the weekend, his performance was evaluated by Deepali Mistry (Judo Australia Referee Committee Chair) and Lubo Petr (Oceania Judo Union Referee Commission Director). Following their assessment, Jonathan was awarded his National C licence, marking his entry into the national refereeing ranks.

With this promotion, Jonathan is now accredited to referee at national and international-level competitions across Australia—an achievement that recognises his dedication, skill, and commitment to the sport. It also represents another step in the structured refereeing pathway which, much like athletes, allows officials to progress through the ranks and take on greater opportunities at state, national, and international levels.

Judo WA congratulates Jonathan on this outstanding accomplishment and thanks all referees who give their time, expertise, and passion to ensure competitions run smoothly and fairly.
